WHERE TO EAT AT THE ALGARVE
- Trying new food in South Portugal -
The Algarve is known for its rough nature and beautiful beaches. But you can also dine like a king in the south of Portugal. Delicious, fresh food to affordable prices made this trip a true culinary experience. Next, I'll share with you my recommendations of where and what to eat at the Algarve.
"A true culinary experience"
BREAKFAST IDEAS
During our vacation at the Algarve we stayed at a beautiful AirBnB (Link to it HERE) in Portimao. Living amongst locals is great, as you experience the local life. It also ment putting food on the table ourselves (in comparison to hotel service). So we went grocery shopping. Affordable supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl as well has huge grocery stores comparable with target were within walking distance of the apartment. We usually prepared our breakfast ourselves bevor heading out to a fun filled day and ate out every other night. And here is were we went:
A DINNER IN PARADISE
This first restaurant we discovered by accident. We wanted to go to the beach but couldn't find the way. So we ended up not listening to the navigation system and just drove down small gravel roads in search for a perfect little spot by the beach. We fount it at DE ARRIFES BEACH. The smallest little cove I've ever seen with a little restaurant overlooking the ocean shore. After having spent a nice couple of hours relaxing, we sat at our table on the terrace at A SADINHA, where we experienced a beautiful sunset as well as delicious food: Fresh fish marinated in herbs and lemon with small potatoes in garlic and olive oil. A fresh salad on the side served with a glass of white wine completed the dinner. The staff was extremely nice and even offered me a jacket when I was getting a bit chilly. The whole day truly felt like something out of a dream. I couldn't have asked for more.
"Dinner by the ocean, please!"
Our dining experience at CLUB NAU was just as great! It was Sebastian's birthday when we decided to have dinner at a beach club on the opposite side of the Portimao haven. Here, a long, sandy beach made for a beautiful scenery. The food was just as amazing. Followed by a couple of appetizers consisting of calamari, olives, humus and breadsticks, I had prawns and spaghetti aglio olio (see picture on the right), Sebastian the octopus tentacle and potatoes. We had to pass on dessert as we were fuller than full. The restaurant itself (see pictures above and below) reminded me a lot of the beach bars in Berlin with its chilled music and lounge areas. TIME FOR SNACKS
At MARINHA BEACH (I wrote more about this magical beach HERE) you'll find the cutest of all ice cream trucks! Its baby blue color makes for a perfect foto spot. The soft ice cream is good as well. Here, you can enjoy your summer delight with a stunning view of la Marinha.

When heading back home, we flew out of the Lagos Airport. Very early in the morning I was in desperate need for a coffee. As the airport was under construction at the time, there wasn't many duty free shops open. For my luck, I discovered they had a COSTA COFFEE shop. Ever since Sebastian visited me in Warsaw (read more about this beautiful city HERE), we are in love with coffee from Costa's. As I hadn't had one in a while I got extremely exited. I went for the cinnamon latte with a blueberry muffin on the side - my all time favorite at any time of year. This made flying home and away from this perfect vaction a little bit more bearable.
I hope you enjoyed these tipps on where and what to eat at the Algarve. There are so many more restaurant options - so don't be afraid to explore. I would just advice you to bypass any areas that are too touristy if you want the real portugese food experience.
