A BOOK TO RECOMMEND
To say it with Jonny Mercers words: "Baby, it's cold outside.". Yes, it is indeed, Jonny. Therefore, I'm all snuggled up and reading the days away. To get me into the Christmas spirit I read "All I want for Christmas is You" written by Lisa Mondello. Here is the abstract as it's written on the back of the book to give you a glimpse at what this Christmas story is all about:
"Sometimes fate needs a little hand...
Santa Claus is going to have a rough season. Lauren Alexander is raising her daughter alone. Abandoned by her family for her decision to keep her daughter Kristen, she has done a pretty good job for the last six years. Or she thought she had. That's why she is crushed when little Kristen gives up her wish for a toy or goodie and instead asks Santa for a present for her mother. She wants Santa to bring a Daddy. Delivering Daddies isn't Santa's bag. But this Santa has a plan."
Yes, it sounds a little corky. And yes, the end may seem predictable. But, on a cold winter day, with a cup of tea and nothing else on your mind, you might want to grab that book with a clear happy ending. So that you, even if it's just for a moment, believe in miracles happening. If we are honest with ourselves, we all want happy endings in our life. So reading about it makes us happy. At least that's how it is for me. So enjoy this little bit of light reading this Christmas season.
A BOOK NOT SO RECOMMENDABLE
The US and UK bestseller "The life-changing magic of not giving a f*ck - how to stop spending time you don't have with people you don't like doing things you don't want to do" written by Sarah Knight has been praised many times before. However, this blog post would disagree with most critics. Here is an abstract:
"Are you stressed-out, overbooked, and underwhelmed by life? Fed up with pleasing everyone else before you please yourself?
It's time to stop giving a f*ck.
This brilliant, hilarious, and practical parody of Marie Kondo's bestseller 'The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up' explaines how to rid yourself of unwanted obligations, shame, and guild."
Yes, it's meant to be funny. And yes, I can relate to many of the stress factors she talks about. And yes, this book taught me one thing: Don't always give so many f*cks about things you shouldn't give a f*ck about. So now, I sometimes catch myself thinking that I shouldn't be bothered by what someone has said, or making a full analysis of what they may have actually ment by saying that. And that's good. It really is. Other than that, it's really more of a commedy than an actual guidebook. And if you see it as this, than the book is for you. For me personally, it was quite difficult to get into the book. And I have to admit that I havn't fully finished it yet.

DON'T LIKE READING? I GOT YOU.
Sometimes, my eyes are just too tired to read, or I'm sitting on a bus not able to read a book withought getting sick. This is when I turn on Spotify or Audible and listen to a nice audio book. I just finished Jojo Moyes'
The Ship of Brides
"Australia, 1946. 650 brides are departing for England to meet the men they married in wartime. But instead of the luxury liner they were expecting, they find themselves aboard an aircraft carrier, alongside a thousand men. On the sun-baked decks, old loves and past promises become distant memories, and tensions are stretched to the limit as brides and husbands change their minds. And for Frances Mackenzie, one bride in particular, it soon becomes clear that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination."
I love the 1940s and the fact that this world just comes to life in my mind while listening to this audio book. It's a beautiful story of four women with an unexpected ending.
And for all German readers of my blog: I just recently started the audio book "Generation Beziehungsunfähig" (freely translated: generation unable to have real connections) by Michael Nast. Here, the Berlin author talks about our 20s, when we are full of expectations, and about our 30s, when we are full of nothing. It's a rather critical but hilarious view on our generation and one I can definitely relate to. It's a must-read for sure!
